This is the latest news on the outbreak of RVHD2 in the UK and vaccination for your rabbit.

Rabbit Viral Haemorrhagic Disease 1 and 2

The latest update on rabbit vaccination has recently changed.  Currently in the UK Nobivac Myxo-RHD is the vaccine used to protect our rabbit pets against rabbit viral haemorrhagic disease (RVHD) and myxomatosis.

However recently a new strain has emerged in France RVHD2. Our normal vaccination does not provide protection against this stain of the virus.

It can infect bunnies from any age.

Currently we can  obtain a special import license to import the vaccine from France, and use this to vaccinate our rabbits. However this is a waiting list for the stock currently.

The protocol is a vaccine once a year in low risk rabbits and every 6 months in high risk rabbits.

We need to leave at least 2 weeks apart between the normal vaccinations and the new.

If you are concerned about your rabbit vaccination please  speak to a member of the team to discuss your needs. 01823 240140
